Ira Milosevic completed a MSc in Neuroscience in 2003 and PhD in Neuroscience in 2006 at International Max Planck Research School in Neuroscience (IMPRS) and Georg-August-Universität Göttingen in Germany. She obtained a Diploma (Dipl. Ing.) in Molecular Biology in 2001 from the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Science, in Croatia. She has established her first independent research group in 2013 at the European Neuroscience Institute – a joint initiative of the University Medical Center Göttingen and the Max Planck Society – with a prestigious Emmy Noether Young Investigator grant to study mechanisms of synaptic vesicle recycling at the neuronal synapse and how defective SV recycling contributes to neurodegeneration. She received professorial fellowship and was appointed Associate Professor at the Nuffield Department of Medicine, University of Oxford in 2020 and promoted to Professor of Neuronal Physiology and Pathology in 2025. Since 2021, together with Nuno Raimundo, Ira has been supporting the start of newly founded Multidisciplinary Institute for Ageing (MIA) at the University of Coimbra. She has authored 56 articles in peer-reviewed journals and contributed 4 book chapters. She has started 4 lecture series in Göttingen (Germany) and Oxford (UK), and organised 17 international scientific events. She has supervised 5 doctoral theses (and co-supervised 3) to competition as well as 31 master’s dissertations (and co-supervised 2). She is presently supervising 5 doctoral students. Ira received 9 awards and honours. She has participated as a researcher in 1 project and served as principal investigator in 9 projects. Her work is situated within the field of Medical and Health Sciences, with a particular focus on Basic Medicine and Neuroscience.
