Sasha Vasconcelos has a PhD in Biodiversity, Genetics and Evolution (Univ. of Porto, 2022), an MSc in Conservation Biology (Univ. of Évora, 2011), and a degree in Environmental Biology (Univ. of Lisbon, 2008). From 2012-2016 she worked as a research fellow at CIBIO-InBIO (Research Center in Biodiversity and Genetic Resources) and the former Lisbon Tropical Research Institute, conducting taxonomic revisions of Afrotropical butterfly collections. In parallel, she participated in projects examining the impacts of agricultural expansion and of farmland afforestation on insect communities. In 2017, she won an FCT-funded PhD scholarship and developed her thesis on the "Impacts of agricultural intensification on arthropod communities and natural biocontrol potential in olive orchards" in collaboration with the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU). Since 2022, Sasha has been a postdoc at SLU, investigating how tomato fields in Tanzania and Benin can be managed to control a highly invasive tomato pest, and how semi-natural habitat can be restored to enhance natural biocontrol in cereal crops in Europe. She has published 23 articles, including 6 as first author and 5 as second author. She has participated in 3 FCT projects, 1 FORMAS, 1 Horizon 2020 and 1 BIODIVERSA project. She has mentored 3 MSc students and 1 PhD student, and has been jury of 1 MSc thesis.
