Sérgio Rosendo completed his PhD in Development Studies in 2003 at the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom. After initiating his research career in the UK, he moved to Portugal in 2009 where he worked until 2014 as auxiliary researcher, at the now extinct Geography and Regional Planning Research Centre (e-GEO) of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of Nova University of Lisbon (NOVA FCSH). Since 2014, he has been a post-doctoral researcher at the Interdisciplinary Centre of Social Sciences (CICS.NOVA) of NOVA FCSH where he coordinates the thematic research line on Human Development and Sustainability. He is a social scientist working in the areas of Human Geography, with an emphasis on environment and development in the African continent. His main research interests include the social dimensions of marine biodiversity conservation and adaptation to climate change in coastal zones. Over the last 5 years, he participated in two research projects, one as co-principal investigator (EKLA) and another as investigator (CICLICO). He coordinated a EU-Funded Marie Curie International Research Staff Exchange Scheme (KnowHow, 2014-16). He has also been actively involved in supporting the implementation of community-based marine conservation in Mozambique under Our Sea Our Life (OSOL), a program funded by competitive grants. Over the last 5 years, he published 8 co-authored articles in international peer-reviewed journals and presented 8 papers at international conferences. His work has been cited by influential reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). He has co-supervised 3 PhD theses and was external examiner in 1 PhD and 1 Master thesis. He is expert evaluator in the periodic monitoring of 2 H2020 projects; and was evaluator in 2 H2020 calls. He participated in 2 H2020 project proposal evaluation processes as vice-chair and quality controller of evaluation summary reports. He was as member of the scientific committee of 2 international conferences and is member of the editorial boards of the Sustainability Science Journal and the Western Indian Ocean Journal of Marine Science. He regularly reviews articles for international peer-reviewed journals, and has contributed to post-graduate teaching at Nova University of Lisbon and Lúrio University (Pemba, Mozambique).
