Doctor of Philosophy in 1998 by University of Southampton, Institute of Sound and Vibration Research; Master in Mechanical Engineering in 1994 by Universidade de Lisboa, Instituto Superior Técnico, and Licenciatura (first degree, 5 years) in Mechanical Engineering in 1992 by Universidade do Porto, Faculdade de Engenharia. Is Associate Professor in Universidade do Porto, Faculdade de Engenharia. Carries out research in structural dynamics, with emphasis in non-linear dynamics. Co-authored more than 70 articles in journals. Has 2 section(s) of books. Participated as researcher in projects, including one EU project and a COST action. Has been Principal investigator in 3 research projects and responsible for cooperative grants. Was Honorary Researcher at diverse European institutions, including University College London, TU Delft and Arts et Métiers, Paris Tech (Lille Campus). In his research activities interacted with more than 35 collaborators. Lectured diverse subjects in the area of Applied Mechanics, mostly at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, but also as Invited Lecturer in European institutions. Taught in a short course at the Centre International des Science Mécaniques (CISM), Udine, Italy in 2010. Pre-nominated Chair of SM19: Structural Vibrations, ICTAM 2008, XXII International Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, and SM18: Nonlinear dynamics for design, ICTAM 2024, XXVI International Conference of the Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. Chairman of EUROMECH colloquia 483 and 603; has been involved in the organization of other conferences and symposia. Acted as co-editor of journal special issues. Member of the Editorial Board of Mathematical Problems in Engineering, Hindawi, from August 2010 to March 2014; is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Journal of Theoretical, Computational and Applied Mechanics, https://jtcam.episciences.org/. Served at ENOCC European Nonlinear Oscillations Conference Committee, EUROMECH (2012-2020). Received award Engº António de Almeida in 1994. Received an honourable mention in 2004 and was awarded the Young Researcher in Applied and Computational Mechanics Award in 2006, from the Portuguese Association of Theoretical, Applied and Computational Mechanics. Received several institutional honours.
