Pedro Pina is associate professor of the Earth Sciences Department (DCT) from the University of Coimbra (UC). He concluded the Habilitation in Georesources in 2018 by the University of Lisboa and the PhD in 1999, the MSc in 1992 and the Engineering degree in 1989 by the Technical University of Lisboa. His main research interests are focused on looking for patterns on planetary surfaces through remote sensing. He is particularly interested in integrating multisource and multiscale imagery to improve the characterization detail and enlarge the multitemporal monitoring of surface patterns and processes. The interest on using terrestrial analogues from polar regions has driven him to lead and participate regularly in field campaigns in Antarctica and the Arctic. He is currently the director of DCT-UC (2025-2027), has been the subdirector of DCT (2023-2025) and subdirector of the Geophysical and Astronomical Observatory of University of Coimbra (2022-2024).
