Yaidelin Manrique graduated in Chemical Engineering at the University Simón Bolívar in Venezuela in 2007. In 2009, she came to the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) and obtained her Integrated Master in Chemical Engineering. in 2010 with the thesis "Modeling and Simulation of Water-Gas Shift Reactors: from Conventional Packed-Bed to Membrane Reactor." In 2017, she received her PhD degree in Chemical and Biological Engineering from the FEUP with a thesis entitled "Supercritical fluid extraction and fractionation of bioactive natural products from cork." From that point, she has focused her R&D activities on Chemical Engineering, Processes and Products at LSRE-LCM. She has worked in several projects in the area of Product Engineering, namely: (a) Production of hydroxyapatite/chitosan 3D scaffolds with antimicrobial properties for bone regeneration; the scale-up of the process was performed using ASPEN Plus. This work was done within the framework of Project NoMIC2Bone (Ref. NORTE-01-0247-FEDER-017905). (b) Developed, designed, and tested three innovative experimental setups for (1) Supercritical Fluid Extraction using CO2; this facility comprises a recirculation loop of the CO2 in the extraction vessel and the reuse of CO2. It was developed to work with a wide range of products, from natural matrixes to agri-food waste; in the development of this facility, the process was implemented in the chemical process simulator ASPEN. (2) NETmix-based refining process (Liquid-Liquid extraction or Supercritical-liquid extraction); this is a proof-of-concept that intends to use the NETmix technology to replace the traditional separation zone of a supercritical fluid extraction process. (3) Production of CO2-hydrates for conservation processes for natural raw materials. This work was done within the framework of Project Valor Natural (Ref. NORTE-01-0247-FEDER-024479). (c) Development solutions for the recovery of waste and agri-food by-products, i.e., these raw materials are used as a source of bioactive compounds for the design of a new product or can be incorporated into an existing product to increase its bioactivity and add a new value. This work was done within the framework of Project Bioma (Ref. POCI-01-0247-FEDER-046112). (d) Development catalysts and design and assemble microreactors prototypes based on NETmix technology, including evaluating their industrialization potential and the process simulation using ASPEN. This work was done within the framework of Project Cat4GtL (Ref. POCI-01-0247-FEDER-069953). (e) Development of new configurations of multifunctional photoreactors for NH3 production. This work is carried out within the framework of Project SuN2Fuel (Ref. 2022.04682.PTDC). (f) Development of sustainable processes and products with advancing computing tools. This work is carried out within the scope of the Research Project Packaging of the future (Ref. PRR - C644931699-00000042). She has completed the co-supervision of 1 PhD student, 4 Master's students, 1 international student (Erasmus), and 4 researchers. She was invited as Assistant Professor, teaching "Chemical Product Engineering" in the course Master in Chemical Engineering (2018-2023) and "Numerical Methods and Programming" in the course Chemical Engineering (2023) at FEUP. She currently co-supervises a PhD student. Her main research interests are Product Engineering - Processes and Products, aiming at the development of processes and products. She has used micro- and mesostructured reactors for continuous production of nano and micro-structured materials, developing novel applications and processes using supercritical fluids, micro-encapsulation and stabilization of natural products mainly from natural matrixes or agri-food waste, as well as the implementation of the ASPEN chemical process simulator in several processes.
