Prof Alexander is a Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award Fellow, and a member of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Science, Engineering and Technology Board. He was PI and Director of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Advanced Therapeutics and Nanomedicines from its inception in 2006 to 2016, and the UK PI for ‘NanoFar’, the first European Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate in Nanomedicine. He has held EPSRC Impact, Leadership, and Advanced Research, Fellowships and was Academic Lead for the £2.6 M EPSRC Impact Acceleration Account at Nottingham (2011-2014). Projects funded by EPSRC, BBSRC, EU and industry (Alliance-Boots, AstraZeneca, GSK, Pfizer, EMD Millipore, The ElectroSpinning Company) build on the application of polymer chemistry and advanced materials in pharmaceutical science. Prof. Alexander is signatory for grants totalling ~£18 million, the recipient of the 2014 Royal Society of Chemistry / Society for Chemical Industry Macro Group Medal and Lectureship and was a member (2013-2016), and from 2016-2019 Chair, of the EPSRC Strategic Advisory Team for Physical Sciences
