Since 2019, Slavka Andrejkovicova works as a Principal Investigator at GeoBioTec UA (University of Aveiro, Portugal) and as a Special Expert Collaborator for NASA Goddard Space flight Center (USA). In September 2020 she became the only European collaborator for a New Astrobiology Center at NASA Goddard Space flight Center (USA). From January 2016 to July 2019, she was a Research Scientist on the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL, better known as the Curiosity Rover on Mars) team at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Goddard Space Flight Center (USA). During this period, she was also Assistant Researcher in the Department of Astronomy at the University of Maryland (USA). From 2009 to 2015 she was an Assistant Researcher in the Department of Geosciences at the University of Aveiro under the program of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). From 2003 to 2009 she was a Junior Researcher at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry at the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava, (Slovakia). In 2008 obtained PhD in Inorganic Technology and Materials. She has a Bc. Degree in Chemistry obtained in 2001 and a MSc. Degree in Chemistry (specialization in Nuclear Chemistry and Radioecology) obtained in 2003 at Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia. She participated in 15 national and international research projects. She currently has 40 ISI articles published in international ISI journals (Socopus: H-index 20, »1100 citations), and about 100 communications at conferences, congresses and scientific events at national and international level, of which 28 resulted in publications of conference articles. About 60 of these communications consisted of oral presentations. She has been a speaker at 9 Invited talks. She is the winner of 4 awards. She has been teaching 6 subjects at MSc level and has been supervisor/co-supervisor of 4 PhD, 11 MSc. and 3 Bc. students. She has been a student advisor and mentor for Erasmus Mundus (IMACS) students at UA. She has participated as a jury in public PhD. and Master's defenses and is a member of the Scientific Council of the Department of Geosciences of the University of Aveiro. During 22.11.-28.11. 2023 she participated ans Mission Control in CAMões mission, the first Portuguese international zero crew mission in Natal lava tube, Terceira Island, Azores – Study as Lunar and Mars analog. She has been also participating in several national/international television, radio and newspapers coverages about her research at UA and NASA. Expertise: Geochemistry of clay and clay minerals, Environmental applications of chemically modified clay minerals, Adsorption of heavy metals by clays, Influence of organic solvents on the swelling properties of organo-modified clays, Adsorption of organic dyes in clay minerals, photocatalysis, Air lime metakaolin mortars with additions of clay minerals for the rehabilitation and conservation of buildings and historical heritage, Geopolymers based on recycled industrial waste for civil engineering and water pollution, Preparation of analog samples to Martian (and other planetary bodies such Europa, Ceres) materials based on clay minerals, organic molecules and perchlorates, and their characterization by several techniques (XRD, EGA, FTIR, XRF) for validation of data measured in situ in Martian samples by rover Curiosity, Clays applied to the mineralogy and geochemistry of Martian samples and respective terrestrial analogues, Mineralogy and chemistry of lava tubes and their correlation with biology for astrobiological purposes. Habitat study and past/extant life search on Mars. TECHNIQUES: Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction with qualitative and quantitative analysis (XRD), Infrared Spectroscopy (IR), Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, Mossbauer spectroscopy (MS), X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF), Isotope ratio mass spectroscopy (IRMS), Evolved Gas Analysis (EGA), Differential thermal analysis (DTA).
