I completed my BSc in Biochemistry in 2016 and my MSc in Health Sciences in 2018 at the University of Minho, Braga, Portugal. During my undergraduate training period, I was involved in a project focused on metabolic alterations in Acute Myeloid Leukemia cell lines, at the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS) under the supervision of Prof. Paula Ludovico. My MSc work was conducted at ICVS under the supervision of Dr. Sara Granja and Prof. Fátima Baltazar, and it was focused on the development of a novel therapeutic tool based on nanosystems to specifically target both glycolysis and OXPHOS pathways in the context of lung cancer. In 2019, I was awarded with a PhD fellowship from the Foundation of Science and Technology (FCT) to pursue my research in the field of onco-immunology. During the first two years of my PhD in Health Sciences, I was at the ICVS research institute developing a project that aimed to shed light on the biological mechanisms in which CD147 promotes an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment and resistance to immunotherapy. In the last two years, I moved to Belgium to do part of my PhD at the Laboratory of Tumor Inflammation and Angiogenesis (VIB - KU Leuven, Center for Cancer Biology). I had the opportunity to work on two projects, under the supervision of Massimiliano Mazzone, that aimed to determine the effect of genetic targeting and pharmacological inhibition of macrophage Glud1 in cancer and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Currently, I'm in Portugal finishing my PhD thesis. During my academic path, I had the opportunity to materialize my scientific activity by authoring original and review articles as well as a book chapter, and presenting 1st-authorship posters at five different international congresses. Moreover, I have greatly expanded my knowledge of technical skills in cancer biology, namely, in cell culture (cell transfection, metabolism, viability, proliferation, migration, invasion), molecular biology (Western blot, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, immunoprecipitation, RT-qPCR and Flow cytometry), and in animal experimentation (mice - handling; restraining, body weight and tumor measurement; bone marrow and lymph node isolation; organ, tumor and muscle excision and intraperitoneal, intratracheal, subcutaneous and orthotopic mammary fat pad injections).
