Cláudia M. Deus (CMD) obtained a BSc. in Biotechnology from the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra in 2008, and completed her Master's in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Aveiro in 2012. After her MSc studies, CMD has extensively participated as team member in several R&D funded projects in mitochondrial biology field at Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, University of Coimbra (CNC-UC, 2012-2015). Her research involves the evaluation of mitochondrial remodeling that occurs in several age-related diseases, namely in cancer, cardiovascular diseases, as well as in Parkinson's Disease (PD). In 2015, CMD was awarded with a PhD fellowship from FCT to pursue her studies in metabolic remodeling mechanisms that occur in PD. During her PhD, she carried out an international scientific secondment at Nuno Raimundo Lab, Germany to obtain advanced training in organelle crosstalk in health and disease. In 2021, CMD concluded the PhD studies in Experimental Biology and Biomedicine with a specialization in Neurosciences and Disease at the University of Coimbra. After her PhD, CMD worked as Pos-Doc in 2 FCT-funded projects (2021-2022), including to screen mitochondrial health biomarkers, and to investigate mitochondrial damage-associated molecular patterns in neuroinflammation. In November 2022, CMD moved to Advanced Therapies Group (CNC-UC), led by Lino Ferreira being awarded with a Pos-Doc fellowship to work in bioengineering extracellular vesicles for regenerative medicine applications. In 2023, CMD was awarded with a Junior CEEC contract (2023.05873.CEECIND). Currently, CMD works as Assistant Researcher at Multidisciplinary Institute of Ageing (MIA-Portugal) supported through a H2020 Teaming partnership. CMD has published 23 peer-reviewed publications (10 first author; 1 corresponding author), 1 book chapter, 19 publications in conference proceedings, 13 oral and 28 poster presentations in scientific meetings, having an h-index of 14, and 685 total citations (google scholar; 2017-2023), 1 clinical trial registered, principal investigator (PI) in 1 funded project (50k euros), team member in 9 funded projects (>2M euros), obtained 9 grants/awards, while having participated in 3 organizations of international scientific meetings. CMD has teaching experience in Master of Biomedical Engineering (2023), Master in Molecular and Cellular Biology and Master in Biochemistry (2022, UC) and at the Experimental Advanced Courses at the Institute for Education and Citizenship. CMD is part of reviewer editorial board of Frontiers in Pharmacology and Frontiers in Medical Engineering and her international merit has also been recognized by the invitation for peer reviewing of scientific papers for 16 international scientific journals of recognized merit in the field of ageing-related disorders. Over the years, CMD mentored 3 Master students, 1 visiting student and some students in their lab rotations. Moreover, she participated in science outreach activities, such as "Researchers European Night", "Week of Science UC" and "Brain Awareness Week". Besides research, CMD was also dedicated to Entrepreneurship Activities/Technology Transfer to Industry participating in IneoSTART program and Business Ideas Acceleration (2015) promoted by Institute Pedro Nunes, Coimbra.
