She completed her Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology in 2016 at the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra (IPC), with the project “Cell analysis in organs of Helianthus annuus L. and Cucumis sativus L.”, which was developed at UTP University of Science and Technology, Poland. In 2019, she completed her Master's in Oncology at the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS) of the University of Porto. Her Master's project “GWAS-reported SNPs related to venous thromboembolism and their impact on the clinical outcome of ovarian cancer patients” was conducted at the Molecular Oncology and Viral Pathology Group at the Research Centre of the Portuguese Institute of Oncology of Porto (CI-IPOP). In 2020, she worked as a research fellow in the same group on the project “Venous thromboembolism GWAS reported genetic makeup and the hallmarks of cancer: linkage to ovarian, breast, and colorectal cancer behaviour”, which awarded her a Portuguese League Against Cancer – Northern Branch (LPCC-NRN) research grant. The same year, she started pursuing a PhD in Pathology and Molecular Genetics at ICBAS and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP). The following year, she began her doctoral project “Tumour coagulome and venous thromboembolism-related biomarkers for prognosis assessment of ovarian cancer patients”, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). In this project, in addition to genetic factors, she studied the implications of epigenetic determinants, including microRNAs (miRNAs) and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs). She completed her PhD degree in 2024 and since January 2025, she has been working as a research fellow on the project “Immunothrombosis in Ovarian Cancer: New Direction to Patient Prognostication and Therapeutic Target Discovery”, funded by an LPCC-NRN advanced research grant. Over the past five years, her research has spanned the fields of cardiovascular health, oncology and sports medicine, mainly focusing on identifying genetic and epigenetic factors as biomarkers to enhance risk assessment, prevention, prognostication and personalised disease management. In cardiovascular research, she has focused on understanding thrombosis pathogenesis, identifying and/or validating biomarkers for ischaemic stroke in the general population, and venous thromboembolism in patients with ovarian, breast, colorectal, prostate, and cervical cancers. Beyond tumour prognostic biomarkers related to cancer-associated thrombosis, her investigation in oncology has also involved the search for other markers and putative therapeutic targets for the management of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) and cervical cancer. Furthermore, given the shared mechanisms with cancer-associated thrombosis, she has recently started researching cancer-associated cachexia, a condition that also worsens cancer patient outcomes. In sports medicine, she has explored genetic determinants linked to athletic performance and the risk of sport-related injuries, aiming to optimise injury prevention strategies. Over the last five years, she has published 32 scientific papers in international peer-reviewed journals, being the first author or first co-author in 20. Other scientific outputs include three conference abstracts, two encyclopaedia entries, five oral presentations and 25 posters, aiding in disseminating new knowledge and fostering intellectual exchange within her scientific niche. Recognising the importance of peer review in upholding research quality, she has been a reviewer for 32 prestigious international journals. In the same period, she co-supervised three Master’s students. Currently, she is supervising two Bachelor’s students and co-supervising two Master’s and one Bachelor’s student, in addition to mentoring an international ERASMUS+ student.
