FERNANDO TADEU PINTO DOS SANTOS is a veteran journalist, political communication scholar, and researcher in digital platform governance. He holds a PhD in Communication Sciences and a Master's degree in Political Science from the University of Minho. He graduated in Social Communication, with a specialisation in Journalism, from Faculdade Casper Libero, Sao Paulo. His research focuses on political communication, digital platform regulation, algorithmic governance, disinformation, digital sovereignty, and the impact of social media on democratic processes, with particular attention to Brazil and the European Union. Before moving into academic research, he built a long career in journalism, television, public communication, and political communication in Brazil, working for Folha de S.Paulo, Editora Abril, Sportv, Band, Globo, the Ministry of Social Development, the Workers' Party, Lula's 2006 presidential campaign, and Eletrobras. Currently based in Malta, he develops research at the intersection of Communication Sciences and Political Science. His current research includes a manuscript tentatively titled “Algorithmic Big Brother? Comparing Platform Governance Models in Brazil and the EU,” which is being revised for submission to a peer-reviewed scientific journal.
