I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Coimbra (FPCEUC)(2022), with a final classification of 16, and my Master’s degree in Clinical Neuropsychology: Assessment and Rehabilitation at FPCEUC (2024), with a final classification of 18. I started collaborating with the PROACTION laboratory in 2021 as part of the Consciousness and Mental Awareness (CO&MA) team, headed by Professor Óscar Gonçalves. I assisted in a master's thesis on consciousness and near-death experiences. Seeking to expand my expertise, I started collaborating with Dr. Fredrik Bergström on cognitive neuroscience research related to value-based decision-making. I contributed to a project on the neural basis of economic decision-making with Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS), handling participant recruitment, tDCS data acquisition, and ongoing analysis. In 2022, I completed a summer internship at PROACTION, supervised by Dr. Bergström, on a moral decision-making and personality project. I dedicated myself to acquiring and refining my programming and statistical capacities. This led to my first-author poster, "Big Five Personality Aspects Predict Individual Differences in Utilitarian Moral Choice", which was presented at multiple conferences and won Best Poster at the IV CINEICC International Congress. Building on this experience, I was selected for a Research Scholarship in 2022 to work with Dr. Bergström on a project investigating subliminal influences in subjective and expected value. I led part of the experiment design, participant recruitment, fMRI data acquisition and analysis, and assisted in the manuscript writing. I mastered my programming skills and acquired advanced analysis techniques for fMRI data, including pre-processing, univariate, and multivariate analysis. As a result, I became the first author of the paper "Subliminal risk influences subjective value in the ventromedial prefrontal cortex", published as a preprint in bioRxiv, submitted to Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), and presented as a poster at the Annual Meeting of the Society for Neuroeconomics in 2024 by Dr. Bergström. I am also the first author of the paper "Subliminal face attractiveness processed in ventromedial prefrontal cortex", currently in preparation. During the second year of my master’s, I continued refining my research skills through a curricular internship and dissertation at PROACTION, extending my work with Dr. Bergström. My dissertation, “Unconscious Influences on Expected Value”, and my internship received final classifications of 19. Recently, I joined the Dynamic Perception Laboratory, part of the CogBooster, headed by Professor Jason Fischer. As a research scholarship recipient under Professor Fischer’s supervision, I am working on intuitive physics within two projects - one on neural mapping of 3D positions and another regarding the interaction of velocity and mass in the intuitive physics network. I am currently responsible for participant recruitment, fMRI, and eye-tracking data acquisition and analysis. During my academic journey, I actively sought opportunities to deepen my understanding of cognitive psychology through advanced coursework, including optional courses like "Neuropsychology of Consciousness" and "Research Project" which functioned as semester-long internships. I was also engaged in science dissemination activities aimed at both the academic community and the general public, deepening my dedication to spreading knowledge and promoting scientific awareness.
