Cláudia Malta Luís graduated in Biochemistry in 2019 by University of Évora, with the final grade of 15 out of 20. Between January and July of 2019, she did an internship at the Chemistry Department, School of Science and Technology, University of Évora, under the supervision of Professor Isabel Alves-Pereira and Professor Rui Ferreira. The work resulted in oral communication in an international congress and a peer-reviewed manuscript entitled "Effects of nutrient solution concentration on plant growth and phytochemical accumulation in substrate-grown spinach". In 2021, she completed the masters in Biochemistry for Health awarded by University Nova de Lisboa, ITQB NOVA, with the final grade of 18 out of 20. The thesis work was conducted under the guidance of Doctor Catarina Pimentel and Doctor Catarina Amaral and its main goal was to understand how iron affects the candicidal activity of echinocandins. Claudia obtained the final grade of 19 out of 20. In recognition of her work, in August of 2021 she was awarded with a research fellowship to join the project "STOP-COVID - Strategies to prevent COVID-19 by early detection of asymptomatic carriers at increased risk: epidemiological studies and validation of a rapid-in-house diagnostic test" at the Yeast Molecular Biology Lab, under the supervision of Doctor Catarina Pimentel. In January of 2022, she started her adventure as PhD Student in Molecular Biosciences at ITQB NOVA with the main goal of developing a rapid and highly sensitive test for diagnosing Candida glabrata infections resistant or sensitive to fluconazole and to test the efficacy and mode of action of promising new compounds with antifungal activity. Since joining ITQB NOVA, Cláudia has often participated in outreach activities, such as the International Microorganism Day, ITQB Open day, and Open Labs.
