Sara Escada Rebelo

After graduating from the University of Coimbra (UC) in 2012 with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Sara Escada-Rebelo has enrolled in the Cellular and Molecular Master program (UC). Having always had a passion for the Biology of Reproduction field, during her masters she has developed her thesis on studying potential new biomarkers for the preservation of endangered felines at the Biology of Reproduction and Stem Cell group (Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology - CNC- Coimbra). She obtained her Master Degree in 2014 with the thesis entitled "A Cat Problem: Characterization of Feline Spermatogonial Stem Cells" that resulted in 2 scientific publications and 2 oral presentations in international conferences. After graduating, Sara kept working in the lab, joined several projects and also had the opportunity to do an internship in human Andrology/Embryology at the Serviço de Medicina da Reprodução (CHUC). In 2016, she was granted and FCT scholarship and enrolled the Biomedicine and Experimental Biology (BEB) PhD program. Ever since, Sara continued to work on the Biology of Reproduction field, now focusing on human male infertility. She has developed her PhD thesis entitled "Mitochondria-targeted molecules to assess and improve human sperm quality: a mitochondrial perspective". To this date Sara has 8 peer-reviewed publications (3 as first author), 3 book chapters (1 as first author) and 4 international conference proceedings. She actively participates in several Science Communication activities, national and international meetings, symposiums and workshops. Sara has also been part of the organizing committee of an international conference (ETW 20 - European Testis Workshop, in 2018) as well as of a PhD student event (BEB Day 2018). Throughout the years, Sara has tutored several undergrad students that came to visit the lab and has lectured in several practical/laboratorial classes.

During the event, current students are encouraged to submit an abstract of their on-going work.
