Synopsis of the CV: I am a researcher in evolutionary biology and population genetics aiming at addressing biological questions in the fields of ecology and epidemiology. Much of my research interests lie in understanding the effect of fine-scale population structure (e.g. social structure) in the neutral distribution of genetic diversity of individuals, populations and species. My work is interdisciplinary and integrates population genetics theory and modeling as well as statistics and data analysis. In the past years, I have developed individual-based modeling tools to simulate genetic data (microsatellites and SNPs) in highly structured populations which I have applied to different organisms (e.g. lemurs and viruses, HIV and SARS-CoV-2). I have successfully obtained funding for a large research project as co-PI (Demographic Inference in Structured Populations funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia) and my Marie Sklodowska-Curie proposal (2020 call) obtained a 93% score (not funded, cut off score 93,7%). I have been involved in teaching, student supervision and reviewing (peer-reviewed journals and grants) as well as in the organisation of several meetings aimed at researchers and broad non-scientific audiences. Since 2009 I taught several population genetics courses at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência and Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa on fundamentals of population genetics aimed at students (undergraduates, graduate MSc and PhDs) and researchers. I have also supervised MsC and undergraduate students during short summer research projects (three to six months with final thesis). Career breaks: I am a mother to three child born in 2000, 2012 and 2017. During the past years I had two career breaks due to maternity. First, I have adopted a child of whom I am a foster mother since 2006, in a long process that took several years to be solved in court and that delayed my PhD for some years. I was granted a PhD fellowship from 2008 to 2012, but I only defended in 2016. Further, I had two maternity leaves associated to my other children born in 2012 and 2017.
