Dr. A. Rita Carrasco (f), is an assistant Researcher at CIMA/University of Algarve, since 2018. She holds a MSc degree in Water and Coastal Management (in 2006) and a PhD in Marine, Earth and Environmental Sciences, specialty of coastal dynamics (in 2012). She has been 100% devoted to scientific research in geomorphology and coastal dynamics, and recent research interests triggered the physical and ecological interactions occurring the coastal zone. She is a well-established researcher in coastal ecosystems with focus on coastal processes and management, and coastal ecosystem conservation, in a multidisciplinary context. She have been responsible for the scientific supervisor of several MSc students and internships. She was involved in past in more than 10 international and national scientific projects (since 2003), covering a wide range of scientific topics such as beach morphodynamics, estuarine evolution, inlet dynamics, storm impacts, coastal modelling, and coastal managment. She is currently participating in three national projects about coastal dynamics, and in a LIFE project about ecosystems conservation, as investigator. She published her findings in 1 book chapter, 25 papers, and over 30 conference communications (h-index: 7, total citations: 165; source: Scopus). She is a reviewer for the most relevant journals at her area of expertise. The current investigation seeks to understand long-term and large-scale evolution (and resilience) of coastal lagoons, salt marshes and nature-based solutions. She has also a large experience in public outreach of science in the form of public talks. Since 2019 she is an invited professor at UALG in the areas of climate change and marine geochemistry.
