Paula Seabra is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Materials and Ceramic Engineering (DEMaC) and researcher at the Aveiro Institute of Materials (CICECO) at the University of Aveiro (UA). She graduated in Ceramics and Glass Engineering in 1988 and obtained a MSc in Materials and Science Engineering in 1992, both from the University of Aveiro. From 1992 to 1997 she worked, as an executive at the Vitricer/Fritta company (supplier of enamels, serigraphic inks, etc, for ceramic companies) and then (1997-2000), she served as the head of the R&D Department at Revigrés (wall and floor tiles ceramic factory). In 2004, she obtained her PhD in Materials and Science Engineering from the Department of Ceramic and Glass Engineering at University of Aveiro with a thesis on “La(Mg0.5Ti0.5)O3 based materials for microwave applications”. Following her PhD, she held a four years post-doctoral position in the Departments of Ceramic and Glass Engineering and Civil Engineering at UA (mortars formulation and behavior). In 2008 she got a researcher position at CICECO. Paula is affiliated with the research line “Wastes recycling and sustainability” and published c.a. 144 papers (Science Citation Index) with over 4600 citations (h=39 Scopus), a book chapter, a raw materials catalogue and 2 patent applications. In 2022, she was included in the list of the world's most cited researchers, known as "World's Top 2% Scientists," coordinated by John Ioannidis, a professor at Stanford University, USA. Paula has supervised/supervises 10 postdoctoral fellows, 4 PhD students, 18 MSc students (12 in companies), 19 undergraduate project students, and 11 research fellows. She participated in 4 European projects and 16 national projects involving collaboration with companies. SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS Wastes recycling/valorisation - Development of several products, including inorganic pigments, ferrites, geopolymers and clinker from industrial wastes. Inertization of hazardous materials; Eco-building materials - Development of innovative building materials aimed at improving indoor air quality and passive indoor environment control; Photocatalysis - Synthesis of pure and doped TiO2 nanopowders. Deposition and study of photocatalytic layers based on TiO2 for aqueous and gaseous decontamination, self-cleaning and antibacterial properties.
