- Ana Maria Chiorcea Paquim obtained a PhD degree in Biochemistry, Biochemical Technology, from University of Coimbra in 2003. Currently she is Scientific Researcher at University of Coimbra (2009-present), integrating the Centre for Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Processes (CEMMPRE). - She taught the Analytical Chemistry II Theoretical-Practical Lectures of the Biochemistry and Chemistry BSc Courses (2019-present), General Chemistry Theoretical-Practical Lectures of the Physics Engineering and Biomedical Engineering Integrated MSc Courses (2020-present), the Bioelectrochemistry Practical Lectures of the Biochemistry and Chemistry BSc, MSc in Chemistry and Biochemistry (2019-2020), the AFM practical classes included in the Bioelectrochemistry Lectures of the Chemistry BSc Course and Advanced Methods of Analysis Lectures of the MSc in Chemistry (2011-present), the Chemistry Theoretical-Practical Lectures of the Biology and Geology BSc Courses (2011-2014). She was also involved in the supervision of a large number of postdoc, PhD, MSc and BSc students from University of Coimbra and University of Bucharest. - She published 6 book chapters, 57 articles in international peer review journals and 1 article in a national peer review journal, with a h-index=24 and 1594 citations. Her research was presented in 58 oral and 35 poster presentations in international conferences. - She and participated in 14 national and European R&D projects, 1 as principal investigator and 13 as member collaborator. She was the Principal Investigator of the R&D project Nanostructured human telomeric DNA electrochemical biosensor for screening anticancer drugs, PTDC/SAU-BMA/118531/2010 (FCT, 2012-2015, 99755.00 Euros, Rated Excellent). - She established an important network of international collaborations with research groups from Spain, Germany, Romania, United Kingdom, Russia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Brazil, South Africa, and USA, which resulted in the publication of more than 30 research articles, exchanges of students and numerous scientific visits. - She is Editorial Board Member of Sensors (ISSN 1424-8220; CODEN: SENSC9, CiteScore 5.0, Q1 ranked), member of the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE), Bioelectrochemistry Society (BES), Sociedade Portuguesa de Química (SPQ), and invited referee to journals from Elsevier, Wiley, Springer, MDPI, RSC, etc . She was member of the organising committee of 2 international conferences. - Ana Maria Chiorcea Paquim is one of the first AFM and STM users in Portugal, with 20 years of experience in Nanoscience, Nanotecnology, Electrochemistry and Biosensor Technology. Her research activities focused on the: (i) development of nanotechnological sensors devices applied to medical diagnosis and treatment, environment monitoring, security and food quality control, (ii) bottom-up self-assembly of molecules (nucleic acids, proteins, lipids, polymeric matrixes, pharmaceutical drugs, metallic, ceramic and composite materials, etc.), controlled by the appropriate choice of immobilisation procedure, (iii) characterization at nanoscale by in situ AFM and STM, combined with electrochemical methods (cyclic, differential pulse and square wave voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy), and enhanced by complementary studies, such as high-performance liquid chromatography, UV-VIS spectrophotometry, quartz crystal microbalance, gel electrophoresis, scanning electron microscopy, (iv) determination in real-time and at single-molecular level of the biomolecules structure and function at electrified solid-liquid interface, and their interaction with drugs, hazard compounds and pollution agents, (v) development, management and collaboration in R&D projects related to Nanotechnology and Biomaterials, inserted in the scientific fields of Nanotechnologies for Improved Quality of Life.
