Nuno Cerca is a Principal Investigator with habilitation (aggregation) at the Centre of Biological Engineering of the University of Minho (CEB) and is an Associated director of CEB. He is also the director of the Laboratório de Investigação em Biofilmes Rosário Oliveira, General-Secretary Portuguese Society of Microbiology and Secretary of the (Portuguese) National Association of Researchers in Science and Technology (ANICT). He has served is many other national and international committees. Nuno Cerca research team works in two main research lines, focused in the studies of bacterial biofilm infections associated with bacterial vaginosis and in biofilm infections caused by Staphylococcus species. His team is currently composed by 1 staff scientist, 2 post-doctoral researchers, 6 PhD students and 1 MSc student. He has authored 90 original papers, 10 reviews and several other articles in international journals, with over 3500 citations and H-index of 31. He has also edited 7 books and contributed with 27 book chapters. He registered 1 patent, organized 15 scientific events and received 5 awards and/or honors. He has been an invited speaker in several national and international scientific meetings and also in science policy events. Nuno Cerca has supervised 10 concluded PhD thesis and co-supervised 1 more. He also supervised 15 MSc dissertations and co-supervised 6 more. He has managed 8 competitive national and international research projects and has been a senior member of the research teams in 5 other research projects.
