Liliana Grazina is graduated in Biochemistry by Faculty of Sciences and Technology, finished in 2011, and have a MSc in Food Safety from Faculty of Pharmacy, finished in 2015, both from University of Coimbra. She concluded her PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences at Faculty of Pharmacy of University of Porto, in May, 2023. Her path in science begins when she developed her Master degree Project in a cooperation between Faculties of Pharmacy of Universities of Coimbra and Porto, and the LAQV-REQUIMTE, in the fields of genetically Modified Organisms (GMO). At this time, she had the opportunity of participation in the European Marie Curie project GMOsensor (FP7-PEOPLE-2013-IRSES, Grant No. 612545) in 2014, focused in scientific activities related to the detection and traceability of genetically modified organisms (GMO) in food. Within the scope of these Project, she developed scientific research at the BioTec Laboratory from the Federal University of Delta do Parnaíba in Piauí, Brazil, during 6 months and 1 month at the State University of Feira de Santana in Bahia, Brazil. In 2015, after finishing her Master Degree, she continued at FFUP-REQUIMTE-LAQV as a volunteer researcher, contributing for distinct research activities, increasing her expertise in the development of innovative methodologies in the field of molecular biology applied to food authentication. In 2016, she was selected as a researcher, working in the European project FOODINTEGRITY - FP7 - KBBE, 2013 - Ensuring the Integrity of the European food chain. This rewarding experience finished when, in 2017 she was awarded with a PhD grant from FCT, with a project focused on Plant Food Supplements. During the development of her PhD project, she could improve her knowledge in molecular biology (DNA extraction, real-time PCR, high-resolution melting analysis, sequencing, DNA barcoding) and in chemical analysis (plant extracts production and LC-MS analysis). Both of these different methodologies were further applied in the authentication and identification of medicinal plant species in plant-based food supplements available in the commercial market. Additionally, during her collaboration with FFUP-REQUIMTE-LAQV, she had the opportunity of participation, as a researcher, in more 4 national projects with FCT funding, 2 of them awarded through an extremely competitive contest by FCT (Call for R&D Projects in All Scientific Domains): HYPOALLERGEN project (PTDC/BAA-AGR/4005/2021) and POIROT (PTDC/SAU-PUB/3803/2021). In 2023 she was hired as a Biotechnology Researcher by the BLC3 Association, where she carries out research work in the area of plant genetics, performing work in the scope of RESIST project (EU funding). She is also involved in scale-up and industrialization processes, business cooperation and new product development. Throughout her scientific career, important achievements were reached, contributing to significant advances in the area of Food Science, DNA analysis and plant genetics, through a total of 22 publications in international peer-reviewed journals, 21 with a high impact factor (10 as first author) and 2-chapter books (1 as first author), reaching an h-index of 8 and 248 citations (Scopus). Most of her published articles are included in the main IF journals in the Food Science and Technology and Genetics categories, all ranked in the first quarter. Additionally, she was the author/co-author of 14 oral communications (1 as guest speaker) and 18 poster communications at national/international scientific meetings and and has 2 articles in proceeding conferences, and awarded 1 team honor mention in Research & Development Category, of the 9th Edition of the Food & Nutrition Awards.
