Ruth Victoria Esho

Ruth Esho is a researcher who is passionate about improving health outcomes through her expertise in Microbiology and Tropical Medicine. Ruth holds a degree in Microbiology and a Master's degree in Health Sciences from the prestigious University of Minho in Portugal. She is currently working as an associate researcher at the ICVS/3Bs Research Laboratory, where she has conducted extensive research in malaria Ruth's research is focused on malaria – a devastating tropical disease that has a profound impact on the health and economic well-being of nations. Ruth understands the devastating effects of this disease and is determined to contribute her time and experience to malaria research.. Recently, Ruth completed her thesis research in malaria, where she focused on understanding specific phenotypic changes across asexual parasite stages using nuclear magnetic resonance. She carried out this work at ICVS in collaboration with INL, where she performed exceptionally well. Ruth's Master's work was recognized at an oral conference where she received an honorable mention award. Ruth is a member of the Portuguese Society of Microbiology and an aspiring PhD candidate who hopes to continue her research in malaria. In her future research, Ruth plans to focus on parasite morphological changes with drug exposure in relation to drug development and nano-drug delivery system design. Ruth's work is critical to the advancement of malaria research and the development of effective treatments for this debilitating disease. Her dedication, passion, and expertise make her an invaluable asset to the field of Microbiology and Tropical Medicine.

2021/05/14 - 2021/06/09	Innovate was a competition I participated in 2021. It entailed submission of abstracts of an idea or a project in the life sciences. I submitted an abstract of an ongoing project am undertaking in the field of Malaria diagnosis. In there I stated the issues pertaining to malaria diagnosis and proffered an effective spectroscopic tool - Nuclear Magnetic Resonance based technology, to detect and quantify infected blood in endemic countries, considering the unique paramagnetic properties of the hemozoin crystals found in the parasite.
