Pedro Carlos de Barros Fernandes (b. 1966) is Associate Professor and Deputy Director of the 1st cycle in Biotechnology at Universidade Lusófona . He is an integrated researcher at the Institute of Bioengineering and Biosciences (iBB-IST) and a collaborating researcher at BioRG (ULusofona). PhD in Biotechnology (Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, 1999), Master in Biotechnology / Biochemical Engineering (IST., 1994), graduated in Chemical Engineering (IST, 1989), Member of the Order of Engineers, associate 24667, Pedro is also one of the founders from Biotrend, a Portuguese company dedicated to the development of bioprocesses. He integrated research groups in projects founded at national (7) and international (2) levels. He is a reviewer of scientific articles and an evaluator of R&D projects. As the most relevant publications he has more than 100 scientific articles in international magazines with peer review and 28 book chapters. He supervised 5 doctoral theses and more than 32 master's theses. He contributed to scientific dissemination actions within the scope of the Ciência Viva program. He was awarded the UTL / Santander Totta Scientific Award in the area of Biological Engineering in 2011. Pedro has a h-index 32 from Clarivate Web of Science and an h-index 35 from Scopus
