Alexandra G. Fraga graduated in Applied Biology in 2003 and obtained her PhD in Health Sciences from the University of Minho (UM) in 2010. Between 2011 and 2019, she conducted postdoctoral research at the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS), investigating the mechanisms underlying spontaneous healing in experimental Buruli ulcer using RNA-sequencing approaches in animal models of resistance (guinea pigs) and susceptibility (mice) to Mycobacterium ulcerans infection. From 2019 to 2021, she was a Junior Researcher at ICVS, studying the regulatory effects of interindividual genetic variation on molecular and cellular mechanisms of antimycobacterial immunity. Over the years, her work has increasingly focused on translating mechanistic insights from host–pathogen interactions into novel therapeutic solutionsfor infectious diseases,, including antimicrobial compounds, advanced drug-delivery systems, and phage-based therapies, bridging fundamental discoveries with potential clinical applications. AG Fraga is currently an Assistant Researcher in the InflammaSignal team at the ICVS and an Assistant Professor at the School of Medicine-UM. AG Fraga has authored 42 peer-reviewed publications and 2 book chapters, with an h-index of 21, over 1,800 citations, and a cumulative impact factor exceeding 200. She has secured competitive funding from national and international agencies, including Infect-ERA, the “la Caixa” Foundation, FCT, and ESCMID, as well as research contracts with industry partners such as Amicus Therapeutics and GSK-OpenLabTresCantos Foundation. AG Fraga has extensive experience in research training and supervision, having successfully supervised 2 PhD and 8 MSc students, and currently supervises 3 PhD students. In addition to her research activities, she contributes to institutional governance and research infrastructure. She serves as Biosafety Level 3 Coordinator at the ICVS and represents the institute in the Portuguese Biosafety Laboratory Network (Lab-PTBioNet). AG Fraga holds FELASA Category C certification for animal experimentation, accredited by the Portuguese National Authority for Animal Health (DGAV).
