In 1996 I obtained my PhD in Human Physiology from the institute of Neurophysiology of Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow by studying EEG synchrony associated with mental rotation. In 2001, I moved to RIKEN Brain Science Institute in Japan. There I’ve focused on evoked and synchronized EEG activity related to visual perception, particularly to perceptual organization associated with Gestalt grouping rules. In 2012, I moved to University of Leuven in Belgium, where I use combined EEG and eye movement recording and analysis in order to explore various perceptual and cognitive processes in natural viewing behavior. Together with my students, I study neural mechanisms of memory across saccades. My other projects are related to EEG correlates of visual ambiguity, perceptual learning, effects of spontaneous brain activity on perception.
