After graduating in civil engineering from the IST (University of Lisbon) in 1997, António Curado (AC) worked as a construction manager in a construction company that provided technical management for civil engineering projects. Still in the profession, he worked from 1998 to 2001 on civil engineering projects as a building designer. In 1999, he completed a postgraduate degree in Building Construction at the University of Porto (FEUP), and in 2004 he obtained his Master's degree from the same university, with a thesis on water efficiency, which was awarded the "Professor Barbosa de Abreu Prize" for the best Master's thesis. Later, in 2001, he began teaching at the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo (IPVC) as an assistant lecturer in the Civil Engineering group. In energy efficiency in buildings, he graduated in 2007 as an expert in the certification of buildings in the Portuguese Energy Certification and Indoor Air Quality System, run by the Portuguese Energy Agency. He's also a fully qualified engineer, duly registered with the Professional Association (OE). In 2014, he completed his Ph.D. thesis on "Thermal comfort and energy efficiency in rehabilitated social housing" at FEUP with honors, unanimously and with distinction. Since 2009, he has worked as a researcher at the CONSTRUCT Building Physics Laboratory. Since February 2018, he has been an integrated researcher of proMetheus, and from October 2018 to February 2021, he held the position of Director of the Management Board of the Research Unit. He is currently Pro-President of the IPVC for Sustainability and the Built Environment. In addition to the energy efficiency of buildings, he researches indoor air quality and sustainability by leading funded research projects and publishing in scientific journals. He's a member of the review board of Energies-MDPI, chairman of the conferences PATORREB 2015 and WCASET 2019 and editor of special issues of IJERPH-MDPI and Sustainability-MDPI.
