Pedro Avelino published +150 articles in major international research journals (including +90 in Physical Review) with +4000 citations in the ADS (h-index 36, see updated list of publications at ADS library https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/user/libraries/2R9acOTgT_uBpZq3kfGoeA). Of these, more than 100 articles were led by him and published as main author (first and/or corresponding author, +15 as single author). Pedro Avelino is listed among the 2% of researchers worldwide with greatest impact on their research fields in the database published by the PLoS Biology journal in 2022. He is a member of the editorial board of Scientific Reports (Nature), Symmetry and Universe. He was the director of the Center for Astrophysics of the University of Porto (CAUP) and coordinator of its research unit, a member of the Coordinating Committee of the Institute of Astrophysics and Space Sciences (IA) in the period of formation of the largest national research institution in this area, coordinator of the thematic line "Unveiling the dynamics of the Universe" at IA, and coordinator of the Physical Cosmology and High Energy Astrophysics group at the Porto Physics Center. He was also awarded (Classification: 9 out of 9) a FCT Coordinating Researcher Contract at CAUP. He was responsible for the supervision of 7 postdoctoral researchers. Pedro Avelino is/was PI/co-PI of 8 research projects and a member of more than 20 other projects, including 2 funded by the European Union and one funded by the European Science Foundation. The projects he led or co-led were awarded a total funding of more than one million euros. He has done more than 50 communications at scientific meetings, including invited lectures at international meetings, and was a member of the SOC of more than 10 international conferences. He is a scientific reviewer for more than 20 major international journals, having revised more than 200 articles, including more than 100 for Physical Review. He was distinguished as Outstanding Referee by the American Physical Society (APS). He was also an evaluator of applications to national (FCT) and international agencies (ERC-European Union, CNPq-Brazil, FONDECYT-Chile, NRF-South Africa). He was a visiting researcher (long-term) at the University of Birmingham and the University of Sussex (UK), at the High Altitude Observatory and at the University of Colorado (US), at the University of Sydney (AU), and at Federal University of Paraíba (BR). Pedro Avelino has an accumulated experience of more than two decades of teaching activity in the three University training cycles. This includes the responsibility for more than 20 different curricular units (more than 10 of the 1st cycle, 4 of the 2nd cycle and 7 of the 3rd cycle). He concluded the supervision/co-supervision of 9 PhD students and 6 scientific MSc students. He was also responsible for the supervision 6 pedagogical internships, a MSc thesis in Physics for Teaching, and more than 10 other supervisions. Pedro Avelino is the Director of the Physics BSc, and was a member of the Scientific Council, of the Pedagogical Council, of the Executive Committee of the Department of Physics and Astronomy, of the Scientific Commission of the Doctoral Program in Astronomy , of the Scientific Commission of the MSc in Astronomy and of the Physics MSc at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (UP). He participates regularly in scientific dissemination actions. These include lectures and participation in videos, television programs, newspaper articles, summer schools, open days, in the Junior University and in the Science, Teaching and Innovation exhibition at UP.
