Carla Silva has a 5-year degree in Textile Engineering from the University of Minho, a master's degree in Manufacturing Technology and a PhD in Textile Engineering both from the University of Minho. Since completing her PhD, she has been an Assistant Researcher at the Research Group 3Bs-Biomaterials, Biodegradables and Biomimetics (2013-2015), Assistant Researcher at CEB – Center for Biological Engineering (2015-2016), IF Researcher at FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e Technology at CEB – Center for Biological Engineering – (2016-2019). Since 2019 she has been a Career Assistant Researcher at CEB within the scope of PREVPAP and recently she has been hired as Principal Researcher. She published 114 articles, resulting in an h-index of 25, with more than 51% published in journals in the first quartile (Q1), according to the Journal Citation ReportTM (Clarivate Analytics, 2022). She is also the co-author of 5 book chapters and more than 80 papers presented at conferences (national and international), such as oral presentations and posters. She is co-author of 5 international and 4 national patent applications. She has cooperated with several international groups, with multidisciplinary training. She was the main researcher of the Exploratory project – FCT “Odor binding proteins: biotechnological tools for odor control” (2018-2023) and the R&D Project between Aquis EU and TecMinho/CEB, Development of a fabric sensor for hair towels (2020 -2021). She was also actively involved in the preparation of several project proposals submitted to various funding agencies (FCT, EU 7th FP, Interreg, H2020, PRR) and participated as a team member in 8 European projects. She participates as a member of the UMinho team in the European project BLUE PROJECT: Bioeconomy, People, Sustainability, Health and in a recently funded project: Vinny-Advanced nano encapsulation of bio-based pesticides and fertilizers for a circular and sustainable viticulture-HORIZON-CL4-2023- RESILIENCE-01-TWO-STAGE. She was involved in consultancy activities with the company Cortadoria Nacional de Pêlo, S.A., “Determination of the hydrophilicity of felted fabrics”, 2017 and was a member of the Multimed project (POCI-01-02B7-FEDER-069737): “Multifunctional finishes in fabric for medical applications”; as a consultant. She was an evaluator of national and European project proposals (EU and Polish National Science Center). She is Associate Editor of Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology – Industrial Biotechnology (IF: 6064) and has served as a reviewer for 30 different journals. He was awarded the Diploma of Scientific Merit from the School of Engineering of the University of Minho, in 2021, for being included among the top 10% of the School's researchers in scientific production in 2020. She is currently the supervisor of 5 PhD students funded by FCT (3 at CEB-UM and 2 at 2C2T). She was a supervisor for 5 students who completed their PhD. She supervised 9 master's students and currently supervises 7. She supervised the final graduation project of 19 students. In recent years, Carla Silva has dedicated her research to the development and characterization of deep eutectic solvents for different applications including chemical synthesis, extraction and textile functionalization. As part of these works, she has published in high impact factor magazines with international projection.
