Sandra Mota graduated in Biomedical Biochemistry in 2006 at the Université René Descartes in Paris and completed her formation on the same university by a Master on Pharmacology and Toxicology under the supervision of Doctor Robert Baroukis's laboratory (INSERM U747), evaluating the effect of dioxine and alcohol on hepatocarcinoma progression. In 2013, she obtained a PhD degree (Cellular Biology) by the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of Coimbra, working on the importance of NMDA Receptors for early Alzheimer's disease progression at the Center for Neurosciences and Cell Biology (CNBC) of Coimbra, under the supervision of the Doctor Ana Cristina Rego. She obtained a post-doctoral fellowship in 2014 from the Portuguese Foundation for the Science and Technology (FCT) to work on oxidative stress-associated pathways in Alzheimer's disease under the main supervision of Doctor Ana Cristina Rego. Since 2019, Sandra Mota is a hired investigator at CNC and work on mitochondrial dysfunction and glutamatergic post synapse impairment has early events in neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer' and Huntington's disease. Sandra Mota holds an H factor of 7 and more than 350 citations, published 10 peer-reviewed articles (8 original publications), 1book chapter and more than 50 abstracts in research meetings. Sandra Mota also collaborated in the supervision of several Undergraduate and Master students (2 Masters as co-supervisor) and co-supervised the work of 1 Ph.D. student. Sandra Mota acts as a reviewer for scientific journals (Neural Regeneration Research and OBM Neurobiology) and is a member of the Portuguese Society for Neurosciences since 2012.
