Liliana Anjos is a scientist with a degree in Biotechnology Engineering (2001) and a PhD in Biology-Molecular biology carried out at the University of Algarve-UALG (2011). She has >10 years of postdoctoral experience in Biological Sciences with emphasis in Marine Biotechnology, towards understanding the structure and function marine proteins, using comparative analytical and experimental approaches. Currently (from 2018), she is an auxiliary researcher of the Centre of Marine Sciences (CCMAR)-UALG in the Comparative Endocrinology & Integrative Biology (CEIB) group where develops her work. Main research topics focused on the exploitation of protein biodiversity from marine sources (fish, bivalves, microalgae) through the application of Biotechnology for Blue Growth, including specialization in development and production of novel marine derived biomolecules and tools (creating add value), combining biotechnological techniques and marine resources that could be of commercial interest (biomedical, cosmeceuticals, aquaculture-sea food quality) and of societal benefits. She participated in scientific projects (15, PI in 2) contributing her expertise in proteomics, molecular biology and recombinant protein production and screening approaches to resolve protein structure and function. In the context of H2020-INFRADEV EMBRIC-Cluster/EMBRC (EU project) she has been actively engaged in the implementation and as aoperational manager of ProtMar platform (Marine recombinant proteins and biosensors platform) at CCMAR, which gathers together equipment and methodologies for the exploitation and production of novel marine proteins. Participations in EU funded projects (9) and national projects allowing her to increase the links with Industry and applied research and have established a network collaborators. Recently (from 2017) her research has been more dedicated to generating knowledge to support the development of safe, high quality sea-food through the introduction of innovative processing methods and monitoring tools in order to extend the shelf life, reduce waste and improve food safety (allergenicity) and in this way increase the sustainability of the aquaculture sector. She published 27 scientific papers, 3 book chapters, 11 short proceedings and presented work at >50 scientific meetings and create OMICS resource in public database. She has been highly involved in teaching activities (under/post-graduated) in the scope of biotechnology/biosciences and also provided advanced training through several thesis projects (BSc/MSc/PhD) and actions of technology and knowledge transfer (researcher, PhD, MSc, BSc). She has also been active in outreach activities such as science fairs and also actions directed at industry or the general public.
