Verônica Techmeier Morato holds a bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Brasília (UnB), with a final score of 16/20 (converted to the Portuguese grading scale). During her undergraduate studies, she earned two competitive research scholarships from the Brazilian government. The first, a Young Talents Scholarship (CAPES), supported a project on pill splitting, which she presented as a poster at the Regional Academic Pharmacy Conference of UnB. The second was a PIBIT/CNPq Scholarship, which supported her research on antimicrobial peptides. She presented the resulting work as a poster at the 14th Scientific Initiation Congress of the Federal District and received an honourable mention. She later concluded a specialization in Clinical Analysis at UnB, with a final project on gut microbiota in individuals with major depressive disorder. She also completed a master’s degree in Bioengineering – Biomedical Engineering at the University of Porto, with a final grade of 15/20. Her thesis was developed at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) under the supervision of Dr. Victor Calero. The project focused on intestinal in vitro models, particularly the improvement of a gut-on-a-chip model. Currently, she is a PhD student in the Experimental Biology and Biomedicine Program (PDBEB) at the University of Coimbra (UC). Her research, under the Horizon Europe-funded VOLABIOS project and supervised by Dr. Bruno Manadas, Dr. Nuno Madeira, and Dr. Joel Arrais, focuses on proteomic and metabolomic profiling of patients with first-episode psychosis to identify biomarkers predictive of schizophrenia.
