Susana Silva earned her Ph.D. in Physics from the Faculty of Sciences of University of Porto (FCUP) in 2013, following earlier academic achievements, including an M.Sc. degree in Optoelectronics and Lasers in 2007 and a Licenciatura degree in Applied Physics in 2004, both from FCUP. Between 2005 and 2009, she held an FCT scholarship at the Center for Applied Photonics (CAP) at INESC TEC. Subsequently, from 2009 to 2013, she pursued her Ph.D. as a recipient of an FCT scholarship at FCUP. Following that, from 2014 to 2018, she served as an FCT Postdoctoral researcher at CAP - INESC TEC. Since November 2018, she has been an Assistant Researcher at CAP - INESC TEC. Additionally, she has been contributing as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Biotechnology of the Portuguese Catholic University since September 2015, lecturing "Optics and Radiations in Medicine" for the MSc in Biomedical Engineering. Since 2016, Susana Silva has been involved in supervising 9 MSc students and 3 Ph.D. students (with 2 currently in progress). Additionally, she has participated as a jury member for academic degrees, including 2 MSc and 2 Ph.D. defenses. Susana Silva has 72 papers published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, 60 papers published in international conferences, and 2 book chapters. Currently, she is a reviewer of several peer-reviewed international journals and Academic Editor of Sensors Journal, MDPI. In 2014 she won the "Best PhD Thesis in Optics and Photonics in Portugal, 2013". In 2018 she co-authored an international patent "Linear cavity ring Down device". Since 2005, Susana Silva has been actively involved in various FCT- funded projects (5 closed + 1 in progress), and 3 European projects (1 closed + 2 in progress). Since 2018, she has been involved in project management of FCT-funded and European projects (ENDOR, WipTherm, LIRA, SUBMERSE). Currently, she plays a key role in the ongoing projects, not only as a team member but also as leading management and providing team support for R&D activities. The academic and professional journey of Susana Silva has been dedicated to the study and development of fiber optic sensors and their applications in various engineering domains. In recent years, her research has been focused on applications in biochemical studies and the measurement of physical parameters for remote sensing configurations. Currently, her interests lie in distributed acoustic sensing and optical fiber sensors designed for harsh environments.
