Cátia Filipa Lourenço Marques is an Invited Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Researcher at the Center for Innovative Biomedicine and Biotechnology, University of Coimbra. She completed her Ph.D. in Health Sciences in 2011 (University of Coimbra) with a pioneer work devoted to studying the nitric oxide (NO) dynamics linked to the glutamatergic transmission in vivo in which she demonstrated the pivotal role of neuronal derived NO in the neurovascular coupling. Ever since her scientific activity has been mainly settled on studying the mechanism by which the brain regulates its blood supply and how the deregulation of this mechanism is linked to neuronal dysfunction and cognitive dysfunction in different conditions (eg. aging, vascular dementia, type 2 diabetes), exploring strategies to counteract this relationship. Cátia has published 2 book chapters and 35 papers (27 full papers) in peer-reviewed journals (19 in the top 20% (2 in the top 5%) of the respective research field, 2 in journals with IF>10). According to Scopus, she counts 970 citations (h-index: 21). Her work has been presented in several national/international scientific meetings where the merit has been recognized by invitations/selection for oral communications (14 as presenting) and endorsed by 11 prizes/awards. She actively participated in 13 projects and secured 2 FCT fellowships, she mentored/trained 9 undergraduate and graduate students (3PhD/1Masters) and is currently co-supervisor of one Ph.D. student (4th year). Also, she has been serving as an Ad-hoc reviewer/editor for >10 international top-ranking journals in her expertise area.
