I completed my BSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2022, with a score of 14 out of 20, and my MSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering with a specialization in Telecommunications (and sub-specialization in Mobile & Optical Communications, and Networks & Services) in 2024, with a score of 17 out of 20, both at the University of Coimbra. After finishing my BSc, I completed a summer internship in the R&D+I department of Coficab Portugal, conducting electrical tests on automotive wires and cables. Furthermore, I closely followed the process, from research to production, of a new automotive cable. This experience provided my first contact with applied research methodologies, laboratory operations, and industrial project dynamics and allowed me to develop skills such as teamwork, critical thinking, practical problem-solving, and adaptability in a technical environment. In early 2023, during the first year of my MSc degree, I was awarded a research scholarship at the Institute of Systems and Robotics (ISR-Coimbra) to work on the "Audiology for All: A4A" project. During that period, I developed real-time audio signal processing algorithms (Matlab/Python) for noise reduction and sound analysis. I had the opportunity to collaborate with researchers from diverse areas, enhancing my technical communication and interdisciplinary teamwork. This project also enhanced my technical expertise and research methods while also igniting a growing passion for scientific research. My growing interest in photonics and optical communication led me to choose the topic of my master's thesis, “High-resolution FMCW Lidar using a Direct Modulated Semiconductor Laser,” developed at the Instituto de Telecomunicações Coimbra and supervised by Prof. Maria Medeiros. The thesis received a score of 19 out of 20 and is currently a candidate for the 2024 Best Thesis Award in Telecommunications. Currently, I am attending a "Robótica e Aprendizagem Computacional" course at the University of Coimbra, where I am building knowledge in mobile robotics, automated systems, and machine learning. Simultaneously, as a research fellow at the Instituto de Telecomunicações, I continue to develop my master’s thesis work and have prepared two academic contributions: a journal article entitled "Enhanced High-Resolution and Long-Range FMCW LiDAR with Directly Modulated Semiconductor Lasers" to be submitted to Sensors, and a conference paper prepared and already submitted for presentation at ICTON 2025 entitled “High Resolution Optical Ranging using a Linearized Directly Modulated DFB Laser”. To this end, my academic journey and acquired experience reinforced my dedication to research, adaptability to multidisciplinary challenges, and ability to thrive in dynamic environments. At the same time, I have skills that I consider essential for designing and developing advanced scientific work, such as the ability to manage time efficiently and communicate with technical clarity and critical thinking. My experience demonstrates not only a solid foundation in engineering principles but also the agility to master new domains, ensuring significant contributions to innovative projects.
