Gabriel Cortês is a PhD student enrolled in the PhD in Informatics Engineering at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra and a researcher of the bio-inspired Artificial Intelligence Group (bAI Group) of the Center of Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra (CISUC). He holds a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Informatics Engineering with a specialization in Intelligent Systems from the same university, the first completed with 17 out of 20 values and the former with 16 out of 20. His Master’s thesis, titled ”Towards Physical Plausibility in Neuroevolution Systems” received a grade of 19 out of 20 values. Work from this thesis resulted in a paper with the same title that was published and presented at the International Conference on the Applications of Evolutionary Computation. He obtained a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation for the academic years 2018/2019 to 2021/2022, spanning his Bachelor’s and Master’s studies. His research focuses on utilizing Evolutionary Computation (EC) to enhance the sustainability of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in addressing environmental and financial challenges.
