I have a BSc degree in Biomedical Laboratory Sciences since 2017 (average 15/20) from Escola Superior de Saúde Dr. Lopes Dias of Castelo Branco and a MSc degree in Analytical, Clinical and Forensic Toxicology from Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto (completed in 2020, average 17/20). I did several internships along this path (from May 2016 until June 2017), one of which in the biochemistry service (from January to February 2017) of the Hospital Center of the University of Coimbra, where I performed pre-analytical and analytical analyses of biological samples, as well as quality control and interpretation of results. At the beginning of 2018, I did a professional internship under the Erasmus + program at the Centre Hospitalier Robert Ballanger Aulnay sous Bois in France (duration of 5 months), where I worked as a Pathological and Cytological Anatomy Technician. My MSc dissertation was focused on the application of a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) based metabolomics approach to identify and validate candidate biomarkers of bladder cancer in urine. In the scope of my MSc, I got expertise in handling and preparation of urine samples for GC-MS analysis, as well as GC-MS acquisition and bioinformatic analysis of data through open-source software (MZmine, Metaboanayst). I had the opportunity to present orally, as first author, the findings of my MSc dissertation at the 15th YES Meeting 2020 (Porto, Portugal), having received the 1st prize in the Parallel Sessions (Prof. Ernesto Morais Foundation Award), and the 2nd prize in the Plenary Sessions (AstraZeneca Foundation Award). On 3rd December 2020, I defended my dissertation with a classification of 20/20 values. The results obtained were published as an article in Metabolites Journal 2021, 11(4), 199 https://doi.org/10.3390/metabo11040199 (IF=4.097), in which I am co-author. The skills acquired in the last year, as well as the prospects for continuing this work in the future, motivate me personally and professionally to promote a better way of life to all patients and their families.
