During the last five years I was awarded a Marie Curie PhD fellowship within the Radiopharmaceutical Sciences Group of C2TN, which is a group of reference in Portugal for this multidisciplinary field. I attended several high-end specialized trainings such as off-line isotope separation at CERN-Isolde (CERN, Geneva), Fundamentals of Nuclear Physics and Advanced Materials (National Graphene Institute, Manchester), PET-aided hadron Therapy Summer School (Geneva and Lausanne Hospitals), Specialized Training on Radioisotope Production (KU Leuven), Development and Pre-clinical Evaluation of Radiopharmaceuticals Summer School (C2TN, Lisbon) among others. I developed multidisciplinary and specialized experimental skills including chemical organic synthesis and analytical characterization (HPLC, ESI-MS, NMR) of different compounds, such as small molecules, peptides, antibodies and nanoparticles. Moreover, I developed radiolabelling techniques for different molecules using several radioisotopes, as well as radiochemical analysis and characterization. I also participated in the setting, execution and interpretation of several biological in vitro studies. The work developed within the PhD and based on click chemistry brought novel competences in the research group. It was entirely published in peer-reviewed journals (3 experimental articles, two as 1st author) and involved international leading research institutes such as the Ludwig Cancer Research Centre, the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV), the Polatom Research Centre and the University of Cambridge. The clickable radiocomplexes developed with relevant medical radiometals (111In, 90Y and 177Lu) were used to explore an innovative approach for cancer theranostics based on GRPr antagonists. Also, a comprehensive pre-clinical evaluation of antibody fragments targeting TEM1 was performed upon 125I radiolabelling. This target is very promising for Ewing’s Sarcoma therapy and the fragment 1C1m-Fc was identified as a promising tool for the development of TEM1-targeted radioimmunoconjugates, following an integrated in vitro, in vivo and in silico study. I developed several soft skills by attending training events in scientific communication, management and leadership and participating to several national and international scientific events with posters and oral presentations. I was awarded with the Best Young Scientist award for my oral presentation in the Medicis-Promed Final Conference held in 2019. I mentored two MSc students with two different projects that were presented in the “Outreach and Teaching Skills” course and evaluated with 19/20 by the president of the PhD School. I was also awarded with a fellowship in the FCT project Nanoglio (with an article published in 2021) and currently with a post-doc within the project TOF-PET, involving a collaboration between the University of Texas and the University of Lisbon.
