Beatriz Guedes holds a Bachelor's degree in Genetics and Biotechnology from the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) and a Master's degree in Clinical Laboratory Genetics from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra. During her Master's Thesis she explored the role of a candidate microRNA in mitochondrial dysfunction and inflammation in Parkinson's Disease, under the supervision of Dr. Ana Raquel Esteves at the Gut-Brain Axis Group from the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC). During her master, she co-authored 3 works, that resulted in the publication of one book chapter and two original papers (currently published in Redox Biology and International Journal of Molecular Sciences). Moreover, she is first author of one review article recently published in Biomedicines and one original publication that is under preparation. Furthermore, she was first author in a poster and in an oral communication in two international meetings, specifically "AD/PD 2023 International Conference on Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Diseases and related neurological disorders" (Gothenburg, Sweden) and "57th Annual Scientific Meeting of the European Society for Clinical Investigation 2023" (Prague, Czech Republic). Additionally, she was first author of a poster communication in a national meeting: “MAC- Mitochondria in Aging, Cancer, and Cell Death 2023” (Coimbra, Portugal). Most recently, she had the opportunity to present the work that she developed during her master’s thesis, as a speaker, at the Brain Gain: 2024 Edition event. In March (2023), she was awarded a research grant for the development of R&D activities within the project "Proof of concept for blood biomarkers of Alzheimer's Disease" at iBiMED. Beatriz is now a researcher on the Advanced Therapies Group (CNC - UC-Biotech), leaded by Dr. Lino Ferreira, and is working on the "Reset Bone Ageing" project, which aims to develop a coating for orthopaedic devices that has the capacity of reverting the senescence of bone tissue and increase its regeneration.
