and 2 book sections. PI of the UCIBIO/FFUP group in the project "Marine waste biorefinery:
bioactive platforms for a circular cosmetic industry" (MPr-12-2023 - ICDT/2023 FCT-funded
project nº16862). PI of the UCIBIO/FFUP group in the project "Shrimp4NanoCosmetics
project - New Nanotechnology-Based Cosmetic Products Obtained through Advanced Marine
Biomass Extraction and Valorisation Technologies" (COMPETE2030-FEDER-01199900). Investigator
in 3 R&D funded projects (HRZZ IP-2025-02, PTDC/SAU-FAR/112277/2009 and PTDC_SAU_FCF_70651_2006)
focused on brain targeting through nanosystems. Recognized in the World's Top 2% Scientists
list by Stanford University, USA, for five consecutive years (2021–2025). Editor
with International Journal of Biological Macromolecules (Elsevier), since January
2026. Editorial board member of the Springer book series: Advances in Biochemical
Engineering/Biotechnology (Springer); Chinese Chemical Letters (Elsevier); Dermatological
Drug Delivery from Frontiers in Drug Delivery (Frontiers); Current Drug Metabolism

for 15+ international funding agencies and 60+ journals. Supervisor of 6 FCT funded
PhD students (3 completed), 7 MSc students (6 completed), and 41 undergraduate students
(38 completed). Member of the Board of the Northern Regional Section of the Portuguese
Pharmaceutical Society, since 2025. Invited member of the "Conselho para a Qualificação",
Portuguese Pharmaceutical Society, since 2022. 1st Secretary of the Regional Assembly,
Northern Regional Section, Portuguese Pharmaceutical Society (2019-2025). Current
research interests are focused on the development of lipid-based nanosystems to improve
drug delivery. In particular, nose-to-brain delivery and cutaneous delivery; the quality-by-design
(QbD) approach to optimize formulations of lipid-based nanosystems; and the development
of Biopharmaceuticals and Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs).
