In 1995, Luís Pires obtained a degree in electrical engineering - industrial control, later concluding in 1999 a master's degree in computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) and, in 2004, a PhD in production systems engineering. He began his academic career at the Polytechnic University of Bragança (IPB) in 1996, where he made his career progress. He is currently a Coordinator professor at the School of Technology and Management - Department of Business and Social Sciences. His action has been spread over teaching disciplines such as Informatics and Computing, Logistics, Statistics, Numerical Methods, Strategic Management, Production Management, Process Management, Project Management, Innovation and Technology, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management. At IPB, he has also supervised and participated in thesis evaluation juries at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. Over the years, he has held several leadership positions, including Course Director, Department Coordinator, Member, and President of Pedagogical and Scientific Councils, but also through the exercise of other relevant institutional positions, such as vice-director (from 2009-2012) and director (from 2013-2021) of the School of Communication, Administration and Tourism in Mirandela, or pro-president for the communication area (2018-2021) on the same Institution. He has integrated different research centers and is currently a member of UNIAG (Applied Management Research Unit) and its main research interests focus on Innovation Systems to set up and operate collaborative networks in the digitalization of society 5.0 ecosystems, Process development to support architectures running virtual enterprise life cycle; Lean manufacturing; Lean thinking; Artificial Intelligence in Business Management and other related approaches. He has also published several papers and book chapters on those issues and has been a member of several team projects across several knowledge issues. He has coordinated and/or participated in several National and International research projects, among them stand-out CRT-ATM, CRECEER, Vivavó, olivaTMAD, and GreenHealth.
