Sofia Braz completed her degree in Chemistry at the University of Coimbra in 2021. After completing the course, she received a research initiation grant from FCT to finish the work started during her undergraduate internship at the Laboratory of Molecular Cryospectroscopy and Biospectroscopy of the Chemistry Center of Coimbra, which resulted in the publication of a scientific article entitled “Spectroscopic and DFT Study of Alizarin Red S Complexes of Ga(III)in Semi-Aqueous Solution”. She attended the Master's Degree in Advanced and Industrial Chemistry, variant in Experimental and Theoretical Physical Chemistry, completed in 2023, during which she continued to investigate metal complexes with infrared, UV-Vis and NMR spectroscopy techniques and computational calculations. The research work carried out during the master's degree resulted in the publication of a scientific article “Indigo carmine binding to Cu(II) in aqueous solution and solid state: full structural characterization using NMR, FTIR and UV/Vis spectroscopies and DFT calculations”, with another one being prepared. She has presented her scientific work at several conferences (4 poster presentations) and participated in the organization of several scientific events (EuChemS Chemistry Congress 2022, among others). In 2022, she carried out an extracurricular internship in an industrial environment, at the Enology Laboratory of Herdade do Esporão, where she had her first contact with chemical quality control work (270 hours), having been invited to return in 2024. From Nov 2023 to May 2024 she worked under a research grant from Sogilub on the project “Integrated Computation and Analytics for the regeneration of Oils (ICARO)”, at the Department of Chemical Engineering of the University of Coimbra. Over the last 5 months she has provided technical and scientific support services to the research at Laboratory for Molecular Cryospectroscopy and is currently undertaking a training course at the Faculty of Pharmacy. She has recently been awarded a stipend to attend Liebig College during the summer of 2025 at Justus Liebig University in Giessen, Germany, where she will join Professor Peter Schreiner's research group. Sofia Braz has also been involved in several science outreach associations. She was a member of the Molecular Junior Enterprise, where she participated in the organization of two editions of the Molecular School, a pre-university Chemistry school aimed at high school students, and was a trainer in the “Scientific Software Workshop: OriginPro”. She is currently a member of the MiniBIOQS association – Science for All Association, focused on promoting science in a fun way for children between 4-15 years old.
