Luis Maria Bimbo (luis.bimbo@ff.uc.pt) is an Assistant Professor in Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Coimbra Portugal, and an Adjunct Professor in Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology at the University of Helsinki, Finland. He graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Coimbra, Portugal and completed an MRes in Cell Biology at the same University. He then undertook a PhD in Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Helsinki, Finland, defending his thesis (with Distinction) on the biocompatibility and biodistribution of porous silicon particles. Luis M. Bimbo research interests are focused on Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery; more specifically he leads a research group investigating porous materials for pharmaceutical processing, supramolecular hydrogels, drug nanocrystals, and lung delivery, which so far attracted over 537 780 Euros in external funding as a PI and resulted in 31 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals such as ACS Nano (2), Biomaterials (3), Nanoscale (2) and Journal of Controlled Release (1), which garnered 2470 citations. He has an h-index of 23 (Google Scholar). Luis M. Bimbo has received several awards for his research contributions, both at national and international level, such as the Albert Wuokko Award to a Young Researcher by the Finnish Pharmaceutical Society (a competitive national biennial award which is Finland¿s most prestigious pharmaceutical award bestowed to a young pharmaceutical scientist), the Best Thesis Award by the Viikki Research Groups Organization (a competitive national annual award given to the best thesis in all Biosciences except Medicine at the University of Helsinki), the Award for the Most Outstanding Doctoral Thesis in the Pharmaceutical Sciences by the APV (a competitive international biennial award for the best thesis in Pharmaceutical Technology by the International Association for Pharmaceutical Technology) and the Emerging Scientist Award from the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the United Kingdom, UK (a competitive personal award which recognises researchers from across the globe in academia, industry, public service or other scientific establishments with no more than 10 years since award of their PhD, have an outstanding track record indicative of excellent potential).
