Pinho D., received her doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering, University of Porto (January 2018) supported by an awarded FCT scholarship. Her doctoral research was performed in the field of microfluidics systems for blood cell separation, single-cell biomechanical characterization and cell behavior modeling, obtaining strong know-how in biomedical devices micro-fabrication, soft-lithography, 3D printing, blood manipulation, hemorheology, computer fluids dynamics and, cell culture. Recently, she was granted with the 4th edition of the Individual Stimulus from FCT, Junior Researcher contract (2021.00027.CEECIND) within the project "Next generation of a microfluidic Organ-on-a-Chip platform to assess and diagnosis therapeutic effects of innovative nanomedicines". Currently, Pinho, D., is a Junior Research at CMEMS- UMinho working in the field of biomedical microsystems and computational modelling for the integration of biosensing systems with microfluidic platforms, namely Organ-on-a-Chip platforms. Lastly, she works on the projects: Nanotools for rare giants (FCT funding) and Development of a microfluidic organoid-on-a-chip (EU-Interreg funding) at International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory, where is Associated Researcher. Her research interests are focused on cell mechanical phenotyping, cancer rare cell isolation, computational modeling, continuous microfluidic blood processing, quantitative molecular profiling and biosensing. Numerical simulations support her work. Pinho D., proficiency and collaborations in research allowed to obtain recently the projects, Portable Microfluidic system for fast molecular diagnostics of Stroke (FCT funding), Heart Failure-Chip - a portable multiplex biosensing platform, electrochemical immunosensors (La Caixa Foundation), Additive manufacturing meets mechanobiology (FCT funding), Multiplexed micro(bio)sensors array integrated into an organ-on-a-chip device (FCT funding), and Microfluidic platform to screen and optimize nanoparticles for personalized cancer vaccines (INL funding). During her professional activities she performed several international short stays, interacted with 87 co-authors, being enrolled in 19 R&D projects, published 13 book chapters; 35 research papers in good-impact peer-reviewed Journals and, having more than 1000 citations with a Scopus h-index of 21. She was invited for several scientific actions: as referee for more than 10 peer-review international journals; as guest editor of 6 special issues in the field of Microfluidic Tools for Noninvasive Biomedical Applications, Micro/Nano devices Applications, new biomodels for medical applications and, Organ-on-a-chip engineering; as session organization/chair at two international conferences, academic jury boards, interviews and, projects evaluation. Four patent proposals were currently being write resulting from scientific research and industrial product development. Scientific co-supervision of 4 PhD students (2 finished) and main supervision of 3 MSc mobility Erasmus program students; 7 and 13 main supervisions for the BSc and MSc (18 finished, 2 MSc ongoing). She is also an invited professor at Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (since 2014) and the Biomedical Project Leader at the Lab. FabLaB. Since 2023 she participate in the Portuguese Society of Rheology (SPR) Direction as Member of the fiscal council. Thus, Pinho D. track record of high scientific and technological achievement, as well as international visibility, conducting considerable research at CEFT (PT), METRICS (PT), CMEMS(PT), Jade University (Germany), FMG UEx (Spain), Tohoku University (Japan), INL (PT), Cellesce (UK), tailing her research path to an interdisciplinary and international work level.
