I am an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Porto (FPCEUP) and a full member of the Centre for Research and Intervention in Education (CIIE/FPCEUP). I am also an external expert at the General Inspectorate of Education and Science of the Ministry of Education in the external evaluation processes of schools, and a collaborating researcher at the Interdisciplinary Research Centre for Education and Development (CeiED). My research focuses on teacher professional development, with a particular emphasis on initial teacher education, professional identities, and professionalism. I completed my PhD in Education at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, Brazil, in 2010. In 2015, I obtained the recognition and equivalence of my PhD in Educational Sciences at FPCEUP, Portugal. I am Co-PI of the project Fifty Years of Teaching: Factors of Change and Intergenerational Dialogues – FYT-ID (PTDC/CED-EDG/1039/2021) and, more recently, I coordinated the project Cooperation for Quality Development: a Training Program Continuum of Teachers in the Municipality of Kuito-Bié (2021–2022), co-funded by the Camões Institute. I participate in the COST Action Grassroots of Digital Europe: from Historic to Contemporary Cultures of Creative Computing (GRADE) (CA21141) as a member of WG II – Institutionalising Digital Grassroots. Since 2018, I have been involved in the Life Stories in Education Network. In 2020, I contributed to the creation and promotion of the Angola/Portugal Teachers and Education Network (RAPPE). Between 2020 and 2023, I took part in the network Citizenship Education in the Context of European Values: The Educational Aspect (CitEdEV), a project funded by the Jean Monnet Networking Programme (621298-EPP-1-2020-1-CZ-EPPJMO-NETWORK). In the context of training early-career researchers, I have supervised master’s, doctoral and postdoctoral theses related to the teaching profession. In the same context, with a focus on methodological issues, I have delivered training courses on the use of NVivo software and provided individual support and guidance on this software to master’s and doctoral students in Education. In line with my research trajectory, I have been deeply engaged in teaching activities. Until 2022, I taught in the Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral programmes in Educational Sciences at FPCEUP, in curricular units such as Structures and Dynamics of Research Work – Focus Group (Doctoral Programme); Issues of Identity in Contemporary Societies; In-depth Issues of School, Democracy and Digital Technologies; Contexts of Education/Training, Professional Development and Digital Platforms; In-depth Issues in Research Methodology (Master’s); and Theory and Curricular Development, SIMF: Introduction to Professionalisation in Education, and SIMF: External Contact Unit (Bachelor’s). From 2022 to 2024, I taught at Lusófona University, where I was responsible for the curricular units Innovation and Technology in Physical Education (Master’s in Physical Education Teaching), Educational Territorialisation and Supervision (Master’s in Educational Administration and Regulation of Education), and Training and Professional Development (Master’s in Pedagogical Supervision and Training of Trainers). Since 2025, I have returned to FPCEUP as a lecturer in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Educational Sciences. Although the teaching dimension of my work is currently limited to higher education and postgraduate studies, my teaching career began in primary and secondary education—levels of schooling to which I remain connected through my research. Throughout my academic and professional career, and through the networks and projects in which I have participated and continue to participate, I have published numerous books, book chapters and articles with both national and international reach.
