Francisco Andrade Pires is Full Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). He obtained his Habilitation in 2018, a PhD in Computational Mechanics in 2005, and his MSc and degree in Mechanical Engineering from FEUP. His research focuses on computational mechanics, with emphasis on multiscale constitutive modelling, nonlinear material behaviour, and the simulation of complex engineering processes. He has made significant contributions to finite element and multiscale methodologies applied to composites, damage and fracture, and advanced manufacturing. He has authored over 110 journal publications and supervised 22 PhD theses, 7 postdoctoral researchers, and more than 30 MSc dissertations. He has led 7 research projects as Principal Investigator and participated in several others, including international collaborations. His work increasingly addresses contact interfaces, surface engineering, and predictive computational design under uncertainty. His research spans aerospace, transport and energy applications, with a strong focus on bridging fundamental mechanics and engineering design through multiscale modelling and optimisation.
