Henrique Faneca completed the PhD in Biochemistry in 2005 by University of Coimbra. He is Principal Investigator at Centre for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, University of Coimbra, leading the group of Nanosystems and Targeted Antitumor Strategies. His research activity has been mainly focused on the development and characterization of novel gene and drug delivery nanosystems, and on the generation of antitumor strategies involving, among others, the combination of gene therapy and chemotherapy. He is author/coauthor of 51 papers in international peer-reviewed journals (with a cumulative impact factor of 326), 6 book chapters and more than 100 scientific communications, 23 of them as invited speaker, corresponding to over 2100 citations and to an h-index of 26 (Scopus). He has been involved in 49 supervisions (4 Postdoc projects, 7 PhD students, 26 Master students, and 12 Degree students), 40 as supervisor and 9 as co-supervisor. He is principal investigator of 5 financed project(s), and has been participating as team member in 12 national or international projects approved in competitive funding processes. He has been involved in different scientific evaluation committees, such as: remote referee in ERC call; reviewer of several peer-reviewed journals; member of the evaluation panel of funding calls; member of the evaluation panel of hired researchers; and as jury of PhD and Master exams. Moreover, he has been participating in several organizing and scientific committees of national and international congresses. He has been Guest Editor of Pharmaceutics (Q1) for the Special Issues Non-viral gene delivery systems and Non-viral gene delivery systems (volume II) and Associate Editor for Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry (specialty section Frontiers in Chemistry (Q1)). Additionally, he has been involved in teaching activities, at undergraduate and graduate levels, in several courses of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra.
