António Pereira Gonçalves is a Coordinator Researcher (Investigador Coordenador) at the Department of Nuclear Sciences and Engineering (DECN) of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST, since 2017), being the president of the "Center for Nuclear Sciences and Technologies" (C2TN). He started his research carrier in 1986 at the Chemistry Department, ICEN, LNETI and in 1996 he obtained his PhD in Chemistry from the Technical University of Lisbon (title: Intermetallic compounds of UFe12-xMx type). António Gonçalves has developed research work in many international laboratories, in Germany, Denmark, France, The Netherlands, etc., and has organized or co-organized several international conferences and schools, like the "14th European Conference on Thermoelectrics", "48ièmes Journées des Actinides", "18th International Conference on Solid Compounds of Transition Elements" or “Third Virtual Conference on Thermoelectrics". He has (co)authored over 280 scientific papers in high-level international journals, has more than 400 conference presentations (30 invited) and is Editor of "PeerJ Physical Chemistry", "PeerJ Materials Science" and "Materials". António Gonçalves research interests include Solid State Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Materials Science, Phase Diagram Studies, Exploratory Synthesis, Design of New Materials, Nanostructured Materials, Actinide and Rare Earth Intermetallics, Pnictide and Chalcogenide Compounds, Strongly Correlated Electronic Systems, Thermoelectric Materials and Nuclear Materials for Peaceful Applications. Currently, his work is focused on fundamental and applied studies of uranium compounds and on thermoelectric compounds and systems for waste heat recovery, as well as materials for sensor applications.
