My name is Pedro Alexandre Simões dos Santos and I have a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Technische Universität Chemnitz, having obtained Agregação em Matemática by the Universidade de Lisboa in 2018. I am Associate Professor at both the Mathematics and the Computer Science Department of Instituto Superior Técnico, and Senior Researcher at Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores Investigação e Desenvolvimento em Lisboa (INESC-ID). My main academic interests are in Functional Analysis, Artificial Intelligence, and Game Design, having focused in the last years on Machine Learning and its applications to several domains. Those domains include decision-making, the creation of socially intelligent agents, and the Legislative domain, where I am exploring advanced Neuro-symbolic techniques. I was a researcher in the H2020 project RAGE (2015-2019), which researched and developed technology for applied games, and was a partner in the Erasmus+ project MoMaTrE (2018-2020), developing a system for Mathematical Trails directed Middle and High school Math students. Currently I am PI for project SLICE (2017-2022), where we are developing neuro-symbolic techniques for explainable and Transparent AI agents. I am also part of the core team of Project Law-NLP (2020-2022), a partnership with Impresa Nacional Casa da Moeda (INCM) which aims to develop a semantic search system for legislation. I have co-authored 3 books and have 80 publications and 190 citations registered on Publons, 23 publications and 114 citations on MathSciNet, and more than 700 citations and H-Index 15 on Google Scholar. I have also mentored two Ph.D. students and more than 50 MSc Students into the successful conclusion of their Thesis, and I am currently mentoring 3 Ph.D. students and around 10 MSc Students.
