João d’Oliveira Coelho is a paleoanthropologist and self-taught programmer with an academic background spanning the full spectrum of biological anthropology. He holds a DPhil from the University of Oxford, where he specialized in automating geospatial searches for fossil sites using computer vision and satellite data. Currently, he is a Postdoctoral Affiliate at the University of Oxford and works full-time as a Paleontologist for Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique. His current research involves extensive fieldwork in the Rift Valley, where he applies predictive modeling to reconstruct paleoenvironments and locate new hominin fossil sites. A true polymath in the field, João has published over 20 peer-reviewed articles across a remarkably diverse range of subdisciplines, including paleontology, forensics, primatology, bioarchaeology, and speleology. His scientific research has gathered over 700 citations.
