Luís Correia (LC), born in 1989 on Madeira Island, has made significant contributions to the fields of structural durability and composite materials. His expertise focuses on the long-term performance of advanced materials, particularly Fiber-Reinforced Polymers (FRPs). Correia has authored 23 peer-reviewed journal articles, presented at over 40 international and national conferences, edited 5 books, and contributed 5 book chapters, alongside more than 25 scientific reports. LC began his research career in 2013 with the FCT-funded FRPreDur project (PTDC/ECM-EST/2424/2012), focusing on experimental programs involving full-scale slabs, numerical simulations, and design guidelines. He was awarded an FCT individual PhD scholarship (SFRH/BD/98309/2013), enabling his doctoral studies on the durability of RC slabs strengthened with prestressed FRP laminate strips. During his PhD, LC also worked on the FRPLongDur project (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-016900), investigating the effects of high temperatures on FRP bond behavior, and contributed to the EASYFLOOR project (POCI-01-0247-FEDER-003480), which explored the restoration of historic wooden floors using pultruded sandwich panels. Since completing his PhD in 2018, LC has taken on leadership roles that include serving as Deputy Coordinator of the FRP++ Master Program, where he is responsible for managing the Master's programme, including the financial and operational components, as well as teaching and organising several events, among other duties. LC is the supervisor 5 PhD (2 concluded) and 11 MSc students, fostering the next generation of structural engineers. LC’s ongoing projects include the Cirwind, Durable-FRP, StickeR project and the above mentioned FRPLongDur project. LC is also involved in the writing of the background reports of the prEN19101 as a member of the WG4 project team in the CEN/TC 250 committee, an active member of fib subgroup 5.1 and 8.1, and member of the national group SC2 (CEN/TC250) for the revision of new Eurocode 2. As an active member of the ISISE research institute, LC leverages its state-of-the-art facilities to advance experimental and numerical research on adaptive and sustainable materials. His collaborations extend internationally, including partnerships with Empa (Switzerland), the University of Girona (Spain), and Aalborg University (Denmark). These collaborations have solidified his international research network and provide a foundation for future opportunities. LC’s career is distinguished by his focus on bridging experimental research and practical applications in structural engineering, contributing to the development of innovative, durable, and sustainable infrastructure solutions.
